If it aint broke don't fix it

Duke Special is back with that altogether 'difficult second album'.
If it aint broke don't fix it. 'I Never Thought This Day Would Come' is not a major departure for him.
Piano-based tom-fullery with a hefty helping of soul-searching, self-observation and a subtle pinch of yearning.
Admittedly, I've only listened to it once through. But, based on my whimsical early impressions I get the feeling that it's a bit of a strange record.
At it's worst, it's a bit Chas and Dave. And with some of the songs I can't help but feeling the melodies sound like something from a kids tv show (never a bad thing, if you're six).
'Nothing Comes Easy' and 'Mockingbird Wish Me Luck' roll deeper. They are Duke at his introspective best.
But like all records I'm not too sure of initially, my feeling is this one will win me over ... eventually.
